Clean water for the children of Ngoyila, in Sierra Leone (West Africa)
In Ngoyila only around 10 % of the population have access to clean water. This is one of the main causes for the high rate of infant mortality in this region. The project ensures, among other things, that families, in particular, women and children have improved access to clean drinking water. Village communities use sanitary systems and apply improve hygienic practises. Groups of volunteers are responsible for the systems and are trained accordingly, for example, in maintenance.

Around 800 working children complete alternative education modules in 13 education centres (70 % subsequently continue their education in a state primary school). Opportunity International Project
Pig breeding in Bagong Barrio, Philippines

Opportunity International Project
Pig breeding in Bagong Barrio, Philippines

The project is designed to provide a total of 100 small farmers (70 % of them women) in the Bagong Barrio community in the Bulacan province with the opportunity to establish and expand small pig breeding operations. During the course of the project, they will be supported with micro loans. This capital enables them to purchase piglets and feed. In addition, they also receive regular consultations and training which imparts business as well as specialist pig breeding knowledge. This training is designed to enable them to improve their breeding and to expand it. The provision of 50 biogas systems deals with the problem of disposing of pig dung and odours. The conversion of biomass to biogas also supplies the breeders with energy that can be used for cooking. This means that they are no longer reliant on the purchase of propane gas which is used for cooking on the Philippines and thus ensures they have fewer expenditures.
